Whether I'm looking for my new weekend sneakers, a raincoat, or just want to play dart in the basement, Grandpa is the place for me. They have thought of everything; when I treat myself in their store, I know my pocket money will disappear, but I know I'm leaving with a smile. And the smile follows me home and a long time after that. I know their products are fairly made, but the most important for me is the genuine feeling I always get from happy people in the crew. Big up Grandpa!
Regardless if I'm there with my daughter, reading books in the children's department on weekends, or if I sit by myself in one of the nonfiction halls contemplation on life, The City Library is a getaway from the busy streets outside. The building itself is super cool. The great, spheric hall in the middle, and the small adjacent halls creates a mighty feeling and great use of space.
For Stockholm guests The City Library may be somewhat of a secret destination, but the building itself and their large collections of international literature makes it worth a visit.
During the summer time, it’s definitely Skinnarviksberget. Here one can sit and chill, sip some wine, eat snacks, have a coffee and really meet lots of different people. It’s not only a nice and quiet spot you have to climb to, it is also one of Stockholm's most vibrant views and the sun lingers during the summer nights. Truly breathtaking.
During the winter, I find my way to the Modern Museum of Art, enjoying their fabulous art collection, restaurant and shop. These days it’s also free of charge to visit so I take every opportunity to see their beautiful things as often as I can.
To stroll around the garden and sip on a coffee under the apple trees is my idea of recharging in Stockholm. The staff is friendly and I love how one can see their passion for biodynamic gardening, it's reflected in everything they do. Specially their food. The pastries at the bakery are nothing but delicious! It’s stunning to see the changes in colours shift from spring to summer and summer to autumn. This green spot is the perfect outing when I want to escape the city buzz.
My favorite spot of our city is the Hagaparken, located on the outskirts of Vasastan in the north of Stockholm. Here I go for the perfect run, a swim in the water or a long picnic with friends. Since a couple of years back the Crown Princess and her family lives here too, I sometimes pass by and visit the sheep the keep on their grounds. Fun Fact - Norrtullsgatan, that stretches out from Odenplan and all the way to Hagaparken is the first avenue ever in Stockholm.
My best place in Stockholm is Skansen. I think it's great to meet all the weird, fun, lovely animals - all sorts from perch to fjord horses. Skansen also has an aquarium where you can pet sharks ( I know! ) and say hi to their nude rats. Personally, I think the monkeys are the coolest, can watch them for hours. Once when I visited, I had a monkey on my shoulder. I am also a big fan of their endangered species efforts, we need more of that.
A great little hideaway saunter trail on the heights of Södermalm with impressive panoramic views of Riddarfjärden, Kungsholmen, the City Hall and the Old Town. I always get a sense of travelling in time when I walk here, alone or together with someone. The beautiful old buildings on one side and the magnificent view on the other. But the mostly I sense the presence of Stockholm with its pulse, charm and water, especially in the evenings when the city is illuminated. Along the walk you find benches where one can stop and breath, chill. Ideal to bring a small picnic basket or just a glass of wine in the summer while enjoying the sunset.
